Mariya Milko, DO, MS comes to Access Health Care Physicians after completing her residency in internal medicine at Largo Medical Center in Largo, Florida. She received her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York, where she also received a Master’s degree in neuromusculoskeletal medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, where she graduated with Cum Laude honors. While at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine she was chosen to be a Pre-Doctoral Academic Fellow, which included a full tuition merit-based scholarship. As a fellow, she spent an extra year studying anatomy, and neuromusculoskeletal medicine as well as osteopathic manipulative therapy. This degree also focused on preparing physicians for a career involving medical education and research and included teaching younger medical students through various lectures, and clinical labs. She hopes to one day be involved in educating young physicians. Dr. Milko truly has a love for teaching and hopes to incorporate this into her patient care by helping educate her patients about their medical diseases so they can take better care of themselves. Dr. Milko believes in treating the patient as a "whole" and not just a disease. This philosophy stems from her training as an osteopathic physician which teaches that the person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit and is capable of self-healing. She hopes to treat her patients following these principles while utilizing all the latest evidence-based medicine, but also minimizing unnecessary interventions when possible and teaching the patient how they can help their body "heal itself." She has a special interest in the field of rheumatology and musculoskeletal diseases.
Dr. Milko’s career is marked by numerous research projects and publications in the fields of rheumatology, dermatology, and cardiology. She has been a contributing author to the medical textbook "5-Minute Clinical Consult" since 2012, publishing on various topics in the fields of rheumatology and cardiology. Dr. Milko is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Internists and The American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Milko moved to Florida from New York City. She is married and her husband Craig is also a physician and works as a hospitalist for Access Health Care Physicians.
